Pattern Review - Pauline Alice, Mirambell Skirt

Image
Hey Sewers! So here I bring you my final make of the summer, a lovely cotton, button down, melon print, skirt. Pattern name: Mirambell Skirt Pattern Company: Pauline Alice Fabric: Cotton from Hobby craft Buttons: Cherries from Hobby Craft (hemline) and Pineapples from Walthamstow Market Size and Version: I made version B in size 36  This is a beautiful pattern which I picked up from Minerva crafts  inspired by all of the button down skirts I have seen this summer. I suddenly had a light bulb moment when I paired this pattern with this fabric and thought it just had to have fruit buttons! Essentially this was the main reason I made this skirt - just to use fruit buttons!  The pattern is packaged beautifully in a cardboard envelope which opens out  at the back and it even comes with a clothing label which says 'Pauline Alice Patterns, Made By Me' on it, which is a lovely touch.  I thought that given this is a skirt pa...

Pattern Review - Nina Lee, Kew Dress

Image
Hey! Here I am bringing you my pattern review of my second Kew Dress. You may remember in my first post I uploaded a photo of me in my first winter version made in a bottle green corduroy. This time I wanted to make a summery version with the cold shoulder sleeves. I was inspired by the fabric which I found at Walthamstow Market, it's cotton with a ditsy meadow print. Love the little mushrooms and grasses giving this fabric a fairy-tale feel. I also found the buttons in Walthamstow Market which perfectly mirror the orange flowers in the print. This was a really quick make, it took me 1 day from start to finish. I decided to batch iron so I sewed as much as I could without ironing then ironed everything together. This way I only needed 2 trips to the iron (which is downstairs) and I found it to be a much more productive way to work. My only real bug bear with this pattern is that the cold shoulders sit quite tight against my arms meaning I cannot actually reach up! Hopef...

Pattern Review - Merchant & Mills, The Dress Shirt

Image
Hello! Last week I finished my first project since starting the blog and now I'm really pleased to write my first pattern review. I really enjoyed this project as it was super simple, quick to sew and perfect for this heat wave we're having!  I picked up this pattern from Liberty because I just love the relaxed “cool” vibe that it has. I have always found Merchant & Mills patterns to have an All Saints feel to them and since I have never been able to afford any of their stuff I was really excited to find a pattern company with a similar style. I decided to make it in a beautiful aubergine linen I bought from Fabricland online which I think suits the relaxed summary feel of this style. It was a simple pattern to make, it has 6 pattern pieces and none of them require tailor’s tacks, just simple notches. It is well suited to a beginner sewer as there is not many technical parts, just normal sleeve insertion, a yoke, the front bib with a pleat and optional topstitchi...
