My Latest Make - Fibre Mood, Lola Blouse

Image
As I said in my previous review there were a few things I wanted to make from the summer Fibre Mood magazine and the Lola top is my second make. I had some funky patterned cotton in my stash (I really can’t remember where I bought this from, it’s been in my stash for months!) which I thought would give this top quite a quirky look. Then to push it more into that funky, modern style I added fluorescent piping to the yoke seam which I bought from Sister Mintaka . Like in my previous review there are a lot of things to consider when using a Fibre Mood pattern but I was prepared this time so the process was less stressful! It was a quick make which I pulled together in one day, the tricky parts were attaching the gathered frill and then attaching this to the rest of the shirt but if you take your time it’s fine. My favourite part of this make is the back, the gathered part sits really nicely against the back and adds some interest. I think I would have preferred the yoke to sit lower ...

Pattern Review - Wear Lemonade, Simona Blouse

Image
Hey Sewers! In this weeks post I am reviewing the Wear Lemonade, Simona Blouse  which I have made in a classic William Morris 'strawberry thief' cotton from John Lewis .This is the first wear lemonade pattern I have sewn and it won't be the last! Their website is really colourful and inspiring with lots of great photos of all their garments made up in funky fabrics (They also sell their fabrics if your purse can stretch that far!). Their patterns are contemporary with interesting details that make them stand out. I was drawn to this pattern over other pussy bow blouses because the bow has more structure and the pleat in the back This pattern is actually quite a simple design which is why I paired it with this busy fabric. I knew I would need to pattern match so I didn't want to create too much of a challenge for myself. The only draw back I would say about this pattern is that it's French meaning that even though it is translated to English sometimes it...

Pattern Review - Pauline Alice, Mirambell Skirt

Image
Hey Sewers! So here I bring you my final make of the summer, a lovely cotton, button down, melon print, skirt. Pattern name: Mirambell Skirt Pattern Company: Pauline Alice Fabric: Cotton from Hobby craft Buttons: Cherries from Hobby Craft (hemline) and Pineapples from Walthamstow Market Size and Version: I made version B in size 36  This is a beautiful pattern which I picked up from Minerva crafts  inspired by all of the button down skirts I have seen this summer. I suddenly had a light bulb moment when I paired this pattern with this fabric and thought it just had to have fruit buttons! Essentially this was the main reason I made this skirt - just to use fruit buttons!  The pattern is packaged beautifully in a cardboard envelope which opens out  at the back and it even comes with a clothing label which says 'Pauline Alice Patterns, Made By Me' on it, which is a lovely touch.  I thought that given this is a skirt pa...

Pattern Review - Nina Lee, Bloomsbury Blouse

Image
Hello Sewers! Here I am bringing you my latest make, Nina Lee - Bloomsbury Blouse! I have been seeing lots of people wearing floaty, frilly, white dresses and shirts recently and what with this incredible summer we're having it was time for me to get on and make my  Bloomsbury Blouse . With inspiration from Nina's own version and the fabric series from The Stitch Sisters I decided to make mine in a swiss dot bought from  Minerva Crafts  and lined in a plain white cotton bought from Walthamstow market. I really enjoyed making this and took my time handling the delicate fabric. I would definitely say this pattern is better suited for an intermediate level sewer as it has some complex elements such as narrow hems on the frills and gathering. I bought a narrow hemming foot which helped massively with this! It did take some getting used to but after some practice tries I got the knack of it and the finish is lovely! I would highly recommend purchasing a rolled hem f...
